Oh, cleaning. I’m always on the lookout for new ways to organize and clean the house. Why? Mostly because I love it. Also because I haven’t quite found the perfect system for keeping my house clean daily. I’m usually a clean-everything-on-a-weekend type of cleaner, but that can be pretty exhausting and also doesn’t really help throughout the week. I found Clean Mama‘s Instagram and filed it away as something to look at later. She posted about her new book being available for pre-order, so I scooped it up!
After reading the first section of Simply Clean I decided to adopt parts of her daily routine to go along with my own:
My Daily Tasks
- Make Bed
- Dishes (though my husband does all of these!)
- Wipe down all surfaces
- Quick Vacuum
- Declutter
I never thought completing those little tasks everyday would really change things, but they definitely do. I usually do the last three tasks about a half hour before I head upstairs for the evening to listen to whatever podcast we’re currently into (Adventure Zone, Rose Buddies, and S-Town currently!) I love having everything set the next day and not having to have a huge housecleaning session every weekend. Clean Mama has a done of great printables and right now she has free calendar printable with her cleaning tasks (which are little different from mine). Go grab it!
The other tip I have gleaned from the book so far from is to create cleaning caddies for different rooms with all the necessary supplies. So far I’ve created two, one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom.
My Cleaning Caddy Supplies
- Method Cleaner
- Toothbrush
- Lil Chizler
- Magic Eraser (PS There’s a 50 cent coupon for these on Amazon!)
- 2-3 Microfiber cleaning cloths
I had recently started using cut up old towels as cleaning cloths, until I read about using microfiber and saw the set (featured in this post’s pictures!) from Amazon Basics – a 24 pack for under $15! These are great for pretty much cleaning everything and you can just toss them in the wash when you’re done.
I’m still working on developing a weekly/monthly routine (certain rooms or bigger tasks a day, seasonal monthly tasks, etc) and hoping to do one of the challenges in Simply Clean and possibly adapt one of those routines! I always have to make things my own and usually mix different methods together, so I’ve preordered The Complete Book of Clean which comes out next month!
Tell me about your cleaning routine!
