Hello world!

Welcome to my new blog. After years on livejournal (from my early teenage years until 2009) I am tired of endless angsty blog posts and THIS blog, is dedicated to my new journey in life: Getting healthy.

I’d like to point out that I said “Getting Healthy,” because this is not going to be my weightloss journey. I am proud and happy to be a big girl that has confidence and style. And I don’t believe for a single second that being “overweight” means you are unhealthy – I’ve always been overweight and at times I was very healthy. However, now I am not and I am not happy with my lack of health. My eating habits and my lack of exercise are things that need to be CHANGED!

How am I getting healthy? Well, tonight, it’s started by eating homemade pizza and having a couple of mixed drinks, but these are my last few days of excess until I am really committed – Monday, January 11, 2010. But here is what I have done in my preparation:

1. I have rejoined WW online. My insurance now covers it (YAY!) so each month my 17.00 is given right back to me – how can I say no?

2. Today I went to Wal-Mart and bought the following items: a new digital scale that tracks weight, a challenging workout DVD (because I despise the gym), and a new pair of sneakers.

3. My New Year’s Resolution is to stop eating fast food completely. (However, I excuse Subway, because I only get healthy options there and it’s better than eating food from the high school cafeteria!)

I am excited – I think I’ve finally found some things that will work for ME! I always told myself if I wanted to be healthy I would have to go to the gym, it was a constant mantra in my head. Suddenly, I have an epiphany that I can workout at home. SURPRISE! And recently, I’ve started cooking a lot, which I’ve always avoided. So I now can cook myself healthy meals (since my husband works nights, I always eat dinner alone.)

The last time I tried to get healthy, I lost over 40 lbs. But was I really healthy? I was only letting myself eat 1200 calories a day, until I finally just couldn’t take it anymore. Studies have shown that people who restrict calories and DIET slowly gain the weight back and then some! I don’t want to DIET. I want to change the way I live!
