Who loves LucieLu?

Lucie of none other than LucieLu was kind enough to not only send me the amazing Teagan Dress, but also do a delightful interview for Return to Sender, and offer a GIVEAWAY to my readers! I <3 LucieLu!

THE REVIEW: The Teagan Dress is a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. I like the raw edges of the knit denim and lace, that still give it that girly appeal, but with a little more edge. The denim knit is SO SOFT and comfortable – the dress just feels so GOOD to wear. It’s a great piece for a big busted girl, like me! It was a big change for me to wear something that is more unstructured – the skirt is very flowy, but I think it is very flattering. I think the little details are my favorite parts: the buttons on the bust, the raw edges mixed with lace…great design. I may actually try some of the more unstructured dresses for summer…just maybe. OH, and the Teagan Dress also comes in a lovely wine color which I think moves it into a less casual category.

So, meet Lucie!

When and why did you start LucieLu?
I started LucieLu in February of this year after parting ways with B&Lu, the company I started with my sister & ran the last 10 years.

Who are your fashion icons? Who or what do you look to for inspiration?
While I love the classic styles of women like Jackie O & Coco Chanel, their iconic style is more of an art than a way to dress yourself on a daily basis. For fashion that I can relate to, I turn to celebs & women I know that always look effortlessly put together. I admire a woman that dresses in a way that isn’t “matchy-matchy” & mixes fabrics & textures.

What do you think is the biggest obstacle plus-size women face when shopping?
I think the biggest obstacle that all women face when shopping is not being open minded. While you should carve out your own personal style & stick with what you know works most of the time, occasionally it’s good to try pieces you normally wouldn’t. You might just discover something new & lovely!

What do you think is the biggest fashion mistake a plus-size woman can make when choosing their wardrobe?
Too much black–yawn.

What is the biggest change you have seen in the plus-size market in the past 10 years? Where do you see it moving to in the future?
Much more variety in the cute, wearable, relevant clothing category! And I think it’s only going to get better…

What is the best advice you can give to the plus-size woman struggling with fashion?
Start with some versatile staples in your closet: a dark skinny jean, a trouser jean, a fitted jacket, a trench coat, a detailed cardigan, leggings, spanx, a black dress, an a-line skirt, a tunic, a stretchy belt… Okay – I could go on & on, but you get the idea. From there, add specialty pieces (bright blouse, scarves, bold prints) & variations on each of your staples (get a long sleeve wool blazer & a short sleeve cotton or linen blend jacket) And voila – you now have an entire wardrobe!
Also, wear dresses! You instantly have an entire outfit, fit is easier on your lower half & there are appropriate choices for both day & night.

I’ve had my eye on the Teagen Dress in Heather Wine for a while and I like how Lucie combined it with the Dresdin Jacket in the models photo. I love green, so I would use the few extra bucks towards the Annalise Blouse.
