Little…err… BIG Black Dresses

I wear dresses and skirts 99% of the time. To work, to go for a walk, to go out, to go shopping…literally everywhere. I have dresses that range from formal to the most casual thing you can find. It started about two years ago…I’m not even quite sure how – I think it began with pencil skirts when I was living in the UK.

I am a dress junkie.

I like them to be incredibly unique – dresses that don’t need a thing to go with them or dresses that I can accessorize to look perfect – those are the type of dresses I will post here. Not-just-your-average-dress-dresses. So when I post a dress I am drooling over, I must am I REALLY drooling over it. It won’t be just a dress that I would wear once in a while – it must be a dress I am dying to have so much that it feels like my heart might break if I don’t get to shimmy my body into it.

You feel the desperation here?

I wear a lot of black. An excessive amount, in fact. One of my students once asked me if I was “one of them goth kids.” So, what does a dress junkie that loves black do? She hunts for the perfect Little BIG Black Dress.

  1. This dress by ASOS Woman, the Shoulder Pad Jersey Maxi Dress – gives me that giddy feeling. I think I may have to buy it tonight. I adore the futuristic feel, the squared shoulders, and the long, sleek design. It’s very modern – and it doesn’t need a thing to go with it.
  2. IGIGI has this fabulous dress – called the Talent and Beauty Dress – is fabulous. You could work it to work or wear it out. I love the tulip skirt, and the detailed neckline. On the bust is an origami silk button – gorgeous! This dress has all the right details and care put into it and has a nice vintage look – which of course, I love.
  3. This dress by Monif C. Plus Sizes is adorable. It is called the Nelli Dress I love the fit, the batwing sleeves, and especially the tie neckline. The ruching is oh-so-flattering and I can just see myself in it. I added a pair of gold heels and and a gold bracelet for some accessorizing – nothing more chic than gold and black in the summer.
  4. I have a thing for zippers lately (did you not see my zipper leggings?) and this dress just feeds that need. From Lane Bryant this Zip Front Wedge Dress tapers from the shoulders down. Frankly, I like this dress due to the zipper detail and the fact I could really work with it. Add a scarf and a blazer, unzip the zipper some, put on a pair of 4″ heels and VOILA! An edgy and easy outfit.
  5. This dress is actually one of many plus-size bridesmaid dresses from David’s Bridal. I was reading in another fatshion blog about how you can get good pieces from David’s Bridal to mix and match and work with. I like the simplicity of this dress and it’s shape. The ruching on the waist is very flattering and I really enjoy tulip skirts. Also, it has pockets, which I currently love on dresses. I’d either pair this with a tee-shirt underneath to make it more casual or a shrug and heels for something fancier.
